You have never witnessed such a love story-defying class & time. Wuthering Heights was published in the 19th century under a male pseudonym Ellis Bell. It later on became one of the most famous literary classic pieces ever written,being recogonisable for Heathlicff's and Catherine's undying love for one another which was unseen at that time. It has always been the three of them in the Earnshaw family : Catherine,Hindely and their father. One day Mr.Earnshaw brings an underfed orphan with him back from his trip. His name is Heathcliff and he becomes his favorite one. Heathcliff was allowed to do everything and his mistakes were always forgiven. That made Hindley crazy and there was always a competition between the two of them. On the other hand,Catherine finds herself captured by Heathcliff's ligh-hearted side. After their father passed by,Hindley becomes the landowner and marries Frances who passes by right after giving birth to their son Hareton. Heathcliff stays as a servant at the Wuthering Heights and is frequently mistreated by Hindey. One day he and Catherine go off spying at the Linton's in Thrushcross Grange. Catherine gets injured by their dog and stays with the Lintons and comes back home unrecognisable. She makes fun out of Heathcliff's manners and uncivilized behaviour. One day he overhears a conversation where she says that she cannot marry him because of his low social status and because there is no future for the two of them. He manages to run away and Catherine falls for the charming Edgar Linton. After few years,Heathcliff comes back home and finds out that the love of his life is married to anoher man. He tries to win her over,convince her that he has changed but that only worsens her already bad condition. "You know that for every thought she spends on Linton she spends a thousand on me",said Heathcliff to Nelly. Heathcliff is devastated and wants Edgar to suffer. He forges a plan to marry his sister Isabella and become the owner of Thrushcross Grange. Isabelle fooled by Heathcliff's charm runs away with him and becomes Mrs.Heathcliff. Catherine soon dies giving birth to a baby girl which grows up to be the spitting image of her mother. Pregnant Isabelle runs away to London and gives birth to their son Linton. After she dies,Heathcliff takes care of him because he knows that he is his only chance to become the owner of Thrushcross Grange. Catherine became a stunning and smart young lady who soon captures the heart of Linton. Heathcliff sees that as an oppurtunity and wants Linton to marry his cousin. They both fall in love for one another,always getting in trouble because of it. Linton was unbearably sick and when Catherine comes to visit she is detained by Heathcliff until she decides to marry Linton or she will never see her dying father again. When she arrives home he is already dead and thereby she moves back to Wuthering Heights where she is bullied and mistreated. Linton soon dies and she becomes a widow. Time passes by and her and Hareton are becoming quite the friends. Not only did they become fond of each other,sparks start to fly. Heathcliff dies thinking that he will finally find peace reuniting with Catherine. Dwellers nowdays still say that they can see their ghosts hand-in-hand wandering around the Wuthering Heights. Wuthering Heights is not just like every romance novel you have ever read. It is a story about love which was never seen before. Personally,Heathcliff's and Catherine's relationship appeared unhealthy to me. It seemed like they were always in some kind of competition,trying to make the other one jealous or hurt. Underneath all those toxic emotions,lies raw beauty in their love. The way they loved one another captured me at first. Their romance gave birth to one of the most beautiful quotes I have ever read. The thing that inspired me and got to me was the way how they never gave upon on the idea of loving one another no matter the circumstances. Catherine married another man because he was socially and economically more stable,but every night laying by his side she thought of Heathcliff and how she wished he was the one close to her. Heathcliff married Isabelle not to hurt Catherine but Edgar,the man who stole the love his life. Both Catherine and Heathcliff were broken people,trying to make their way into the world without actually caring how it would affect the other one. They were reckless,unthoughtful and selfish but still remain one of the strongest love characters I have ever read about. True peace can only be acquired if we have the person we love by our side and for them that was when they both died only to be united in heaven again. Wuthering Heights is a treasure for beautiful quotes and I will be lisiting my personal favorites below: 1. "He's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." 2. "If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be; and if all else remained, and he were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger." 3. "Nelly, I am Heathcliff - he's always, always in my mind - not as a pleasure, any more then I am always a pleasure to myself - but, as my own being." 4. "I hate him for himself, but despise him for the memories he revives." 5. "For every thought she wastes on Edgar,she wastes a thousand on me."
