“I would always rather be happy than dignified.” Brontë sisters have always been my favorites when it came down to classic romance novels. Jane Eyre has been on my to-read list for a very long time and I have finally had the privilage and time to read this classic masterpiece! Jane is an orphan with no living relatives except her vicious and cruel aunt. After spending years in a prison-like house with her cousins, her aunt sends her off to a christian school for girls. There she masters French and later on becomes a teacher. Being one of the school's most loved and respected young teachers, after just two years she accepts the governess position at Thornfield. Mr Rochester was never present at Thornfield for too long until she arrived. At first sight she captured him and he has been her prisoner ever since. Developing feelings for Mr Rochester was not easy because of the 20 year age gap that existed between them but still Jane let hersel fall and discovered feelings she thought she would never feel. They lived in their love buuble until it burst by a dark secret Mr Rochester was hiding. Jane ran off. Wandering hungry, tired and thirsty she finally found shelter in St John's home. Only after a while did she discover him and his sisters were her closest relatives. It felt like she had a brother and sister, a family which she never had. St John may be her cousin but he started developing feelings for her. Although Jane knew God would be pleased with their marriage she could not live a life that was loveless. It was like waking up every day and going to work. A loveless marriage is worse than no marriage. Finding out the hiding place of Mr Rochester Jane set off. She could not believe what she encountered when she finally found him. Jane always knew that Mr Rochester had a special place in her heart and when they finally found eachother it felt as if all the stars alligned. Everything was in place, everything was perfect just the way it is. Just the two of them forever. This book took me a while too finish. Although I was very pleased with the unusual storyline and vivid characters I felt like it tshould have been shorter. Some periods of Jane's life were too much described while others were neglected. Some parts could have been left out I feel. I am very much pleased that Jane ended with Mr Rochester. I feel like they were soulmates from their very first encounter. St John was very kind and a devoted Catholic and although Jane would please the Lord by bonding with St John I supported her decision when she chose Mr Rochster. You can please God by finding both service and love in a life time. I am glad she thought of herself first because life is a long road and being accompanied by a loving and supporting partner can ease all your hardships and help you find end out of every difficult situation. Although Charlotte did not have a very positive opinion about Jane Austen I feel like they were similar a lot. They both wrote about women who were brave, intelligent, strong and chose a loving instead of a comfortable life. Maybe they were more alike than they liked to admit. Such inspiring and brave women continue to inspire a lot of young girls even centuries later and that is why these books are timeless.
