"You are the bane of my existance and the object of all my desires." In December of 2020 the world got hooked on a new and different kind of period drama called "Bridgerton". It is one of te most watched TV shows ever created by Netflix. But from where comes the insprtion for the hit TV show? Juli Quinn is an english author and the mastermind behind one of the world's most beloved book series. It consists of 8 books and each book is dedicated to one of the eight Bidgerton children. Each books follows one Bridgerton sibling's journey to find love. In this post I will be only covering the first four books since I have only read them. Before we jump right into it, I wanted to mention the fact that the books are very different from what we have seen on the TV show. 1. The Duke and I Daphne Bridgerton has been out in society for three seasons now. Desperately trying to find a man who would marry her, it seems like her luck has ran out. Every man she seemed to be interested in saw her as a friend only. Why? How can the men stop seeing her as just a friend and more like a possible wife? In town is the new Duke of Hastings who will perfectly fit into Daphne's plan to secure a husband and be married by the end of the London season. The eligable, attractive and young Duke of Hastings is not interestig in finding a wife nor continuing his bloodline. Having an evil father who neglected him as child is why Simon made this though decision. The Hastings will end with him. Mammas of the ton have a different plan. They see Simon as a perfect match for their daughters. Who would not want their daughter to become a duchess? To achieve what they both want, Simon and Daphne forge a pact. Acting as if Simon is courting her, they will keep the marriage-minded mammas away from Simon and the eligable men running off to Daphne. The plan seems to be working but will they be able to keep up with the faking when real feelings come around? 2. The Viscount Who Loved Me Anthony Bridgerton is the oldest Bridgerton sibling. To think that he has been the Viscount Bidgerton for more than ten years was baffling. For Anthony those ten years were nothing but a void in his heart filled with sorrow and pain from losing his father. Knowing that he had resposibilities toward his family and his title, marriage seemed like a good idea right now but some conditions have to be met first. Anthony cannot and shall never love her. Why? Somehow Anthony always knew that he would die young. After all, his father died at the age of thirty-eight. Most men in his family did not live long and he knew that he would not be an exception. If he were to marry this season, it meant he had at least ten years more left on this Earth. He could not bear the thought of leaving the woman he fell in love with behind. To make things easier for everyone, they cannot be in love. Edwina Sharma was the perfect choice for his wife. From a respectable family, lovely and intelligent. That is all he needed but what is standing in his way? Kate Sharma. Edwina's older half-sister who bewitched his body and soul. How can he marry Edwina when the only thing he ever thinks about is her sister? How can he let himself love her when he knows how much pain his death will cuase her? 3. An Offer From a Gentleman Sophie is a bastard child of the Earl of Pennwood. Her mother was a maid at the Pennwood house and died shortly after Sophie's birth. The earl demanded that Sophie be raised by his maids and given a proper education. Everything was going well until he married. The new Countess of Pennwood hated Sophie for what she was. After the earl died, in his will he stated that the countess would receive more money if she cared for Sophie until the age of twenty. He hoped that by then she would be happily married. Even a dowry was left for her but the countess spent it all. Sophie was expected to do ridiculous amounts of work without being paid. The countess thought she was being too merciful towards Sophie since she provided her with a living or barely a living Sophie daresay. One night they were preparing to leave for a ball in London. Sophie wanted to go to the ball so badly. Little did she know that the maids made her a dress. Since it was a masquerade no one would know who she was. Arriving to the ball was everything she dreamed of but was there a prince charming in her dreams? Benedict Bridgerton was pressured to find a wife since he was thrity-one already. None of the girls of the ton caught his attention until this mysterious lady in a golden dress. He could have danced with her the entire night but as soon as the clocks struck midnight Sophie had to leave. She left without ever telling him her name. Two years passed and Benedict never stopped thinking about her. Where did she go? He tried everything to find her but it was as if she vanished into thin air. At the time being Sophie was a maid working for one of his acquaintance's. Saving he from a misfortunate event, little did he know that the damsel in distress was his mystery lady from the ball exactly two years ago. Has Sophie the guts to admit it was her or will she keep her identity a mystery? 4. Romancing Mr Bridgerton Penelope Fetherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton since forever. Colin, on the other hand, saw Penelope as his little sister. Unlike Eloise, who was asked for her hand a various times, Penelope did not marry because she was never asked to. Here she was, aged twenty-eight and doomed to be a spinster. She rather liked that idea but the feelings for Colin never disappeared. The thought of him marrying someone else was unbearable. Colin was too pressured by his mother to find a wife. He knew it was time since three of his siblings were happily married and with children. How could he find a wife when none of them made his heart skip a beat? Dancing with Penelope got him wondering how he never saw how beautiful she was. Her red hair, her freckles and warm brown eyes. Penelope was genuinely attractive but most men failed to see that. Was he developing feelings for Penelope? Could their love stand a chane when he discovers Penelope's biggest secret not even her family knows? My favorite book so far was Offer From a Gentleman. I do not know is it because it reminds me of Cinderella or because Benedict is my favorite Bridgerton sibling besides Eloise? Witty, charming and artistic. Benedict was always destined for a great love story. Sophie is the one person his heart longed for. I loved how he ignored what the ton said and married her against all the criticism and hate they received. The most touching thing for me was when his whole family showed support because they wanted to see him happy. A loving family was all Sophie ever dreamed of and how the Bridgertons welcomed and accepted her brought me to tears. Maybe because Sophie was a neglected and unloved child made her put so much love and attention into her own little family she started with Benedict. She brought out the best in him and encouraged him to paint. From what started out as a hobby, his paintings made it to the National Gallery in Lodnon. Benedict and Sophie are a prime example of how you should never give up on the person you love.
